Lagos is the western Algarve at its most sociable: a walled old town full of cafés and tiled churches, backed by some of Portugal's most photographed cliffs and coves.
Why stay in Lagos
The old town is compact and walkable, so a homestay or apartment near Praça Gil Eanes puts restaurants, the fish market and the evening promenade right on your doorstep. Villas sit a few minutes out of town, on the quieter ridge towards Porto de Mós, where you get space, a pool and sea views.
Ponta da Piedade, the headland of sandstone arches and grottoes, is a short drive or a long cliff walk away. Kayak or boat tours leave from the marina every morning in season.
Good to know
July and August are busy and the beaches fill up by late morning. May, June and September give you warm water, long evenings and far fewer people. Parking inside the old walls is tight; most of our town stays come with a nearby space or a permit.
