Albufeira is the Algarve's classic holiday town, with a whitewashed old quarter above the sea and long sandy beaches stretching east to Olhos de Água.
Why stay in Albufeira
If you want the beach to be the point of the trip, Albufeira delivers: wide sand, lifeguards in season and beach restaurants every few hundred metres. The old town stays lively late into the night, while Galé and Olhos de Água to either side feel calmer.
It's also central. Lagos, Tavira and the Monchique hills are all within an hour, so it works well as a base for a week of day trips.
